As our Naval Architect, you will be responsible for the development and input of innovative solutions for a variety of clients. You will be exposed to a diverse range of engineering challenges in a fast-paced collaborative environment. 3GA uses the latest in technology and software to provide our clients with high-value engineering products. You will be trained in an array of software, safety certifications, and 3D laser scanning equipment to facilitate efficient and effective data collection whilst conducting vessel surveys. You will use the data and software to perform naval architect functions to carry out Basic, Functional, and Detail Design. You will work under the guidance of our senior staff to learn, grow, and produce exceptional engineering work.Responsibilities / Duties
- Work directly with senior naval architects, engineers, and project managers in the planning and execution of technical activities on a variety of complex projects related to new vessel design or vessel refit work.
- Work with senior-level staff and other colleagues in all aspects of Naval Architecture.
- Perform design, documentation development, analysis, and modelling tasks using appropriate software packages.
- Participate in various stages of the construction process, as assigned. Solve problems and make recommendations as appropriate.
- Undertake onsite vessel surveys (condition surveys, lightship surveys, inclining experiments) including vertical ladder ascent and descent, accessing confined spaces, and working at heights. Training will be provided by 3GA.
Skills and Required Competencies
- Strong technical writing skills including the ability to produce and present clear, detailed written technical specifications, procedures, and reports.
- Working knowledge of Rhino, ACAD software, and MS Suite.
- Working knowledge of Ship Constructor is an asset.
- Familiar with aspects of vessel design including hull, stability, and structure.

Compensation, Requirements & Location
Salary Range
$75,000 – $110,000 CAD
Junior to intermediate-level hiring range, depending on relevant marine engineering background, design capabilities, software proficiency, and overall fit. Senior Naval Architect candidates will be considered at a higher hiring rate, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Includes eligibility for overtime, benefits, training, and profit sharing based on company and individual performance.
Senior Naval Architect candidates with advanced technical expertise, leadership capability, and responsibility for guiding complex engineering work, mentoring junior team members, reviewing technical deliverables, supporting project planning, and ensuring quality, regulatory compliance, and client expectations are met will be considered at a higher hiring rate, commensurate with experience and qualifications. As the Marine Mechanical Engineer, you will work within the mechanical engineering group for new design and vessel refit projects which vary in complexity and size, from small equipment installations to whole-vessel detail designs. Work will vary from on-site to office work. On-site inspection/survey work will consist of 3D laser scanning, condition inspections, NDT surveys, data gathering, and commissioning support. Design office work will make up most of the tasks and will consist of new design to refit design engineering work. Engineering work includes all phases, from concept to production design, including but not limited to concept/class level design, equipment selection, fluid flow analysis, heat/mass transfer, and implementation engineering.Responsibilities / Duties
- Design and drafting of marine systems using AutoCAD and other 3D modelling software.
- Carry out or input to system design calculations using Pipe Flow, MS Excel, etc. that meet class and regulatory requirements, and industry standards.
- Design of marine propulsion systems, calculations, and associated production-level deliverables.
- Write and provide input to specifications for refit or new vessel designs.
- Development of weight estimates and input data for system design.
- 3D modelling and CAD drawing tasks for production-level deliverables.
- Perform 3D scanning and implementation of virtual reality (VR) design reviews, provide input to training and VR procedures.
- Providing input to budgets, schedules, and proposals for engineering projects.
- Represent the company to the marine industry to further build the 3GA reputation as the place for reliable, responsive, and affordable engineering.
- Note: it is anticipated that the candidate will be required to visit vessels and shipyards from time to time.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in engineering or equivalent.
- Hold, or be eligible for, EIT or Professional Engineers License to practice in British Columbia. (P.Eng. required for senior engineer position.)
- Experience working in a shipyard or ship repair environment preferred.

The Electrical Marine Engineer will support marine electrical design projects from the office, working with senior electrical marine engineers, naval architects, mechanical engineers, and designers to develop drawings, calculations, specifications, and technical documentation for new vessel designs and vessel refits. Responsibilities are aligned to the candidate's experience level — junior candidates work under closer guidance, intermediate candidates manage assigned tasks with greater independence, and senior candidates lead technical work, mentor others, review deliverables, and support project coordination and client-facing technical discussions.- Use AutoCAD and other relevant electrical engineering software to prepare, revise, and support marine electrical design drawings, with the level of independent design responsibility aligned to the candidate's experience.
- Develop or support single line diagrams and distribution plans, depending on experience level.
- Support or perform load analyses and fault current analysis for assigned vessel systems, component installations, and existing configurations, depending on experience level.
- Support the development of marine electrical propulsion and energy storage system designs, with intermediate candidates contributing to higher-voltage AC and DC system layouts and junior candidates assisting with documentation, research, and calculations under supervision.
- Develop routing and interconnection diagrams and support lighting design.
- Prepare or support specifications for vessel refits and new vessel designs.
- Prepare technical specifications and tender packages for equipment, including medium- and low-voltage switchgear, low-voltage motor control centres, and low-voltage electrical equipment.
- Collaborate with naval architects, mechanical engineers, designers, and project stakeholders to integrate electrical systems into overall vessel designs.

Technical Expertise
- Electrical Engineering Knowledge: Working knowledge of electrical systems and components used in marine environments, including power generation, distribution, control systems, lighting, and vessel integration. Junior candidates should have a strong foundation and willingness to learn marine-specific applications, while intermediate candidates should be able to apply this knowledge to assigned design tasks with increasing independence.
- Technical Writing: Ability to prepare clear technical documentation, specifications, reports, calculations, and design notes, with junior candidates contributing under review and intermediate candidates preparing assigned documents with greater independence.
- Software Proficiency: Working knowledge of AutoCAD for electrical design documentation, along with proficiency in Microsoft Office for documentation and communication.
