3GA Marine Ltd. provided Marine Engineering Design Production on the Harrop Cable Ferry to the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure for the Province of British Columbia.

 

Inland Ferries

 

The inland ferries operate under private contract with the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure. All inland ferries are free of charge to users. The Harrop ferry runs across Kootenay River, on Highway 3A, 24.5 kilometres northeast of Nelson and 8 kilometres west of Balfour to the communities of Harrop and Procter (on the south bank).

 

Ferry capacity is 18 vehicles and 74 passengers.

 

Service hours: On demand, 24 hours, Crossing Time: 5 minutes

Refit and re-powering of existing cable ferry utilizing diesel driven hydraulic propulsion. Main engine is also used for charging a battery bank used for silent operation during idle periods at night.

Noise issues, residents. Eliminated Noise by design using hydraulic motors and batteries

Final Outcome:
Resolved Corporate Relations with Residents and improved efficiency and created ease of operation.
