As our Naval Architect, you will be responsible for the development and input of innovative solutions for a variety of clients. You will be exposed to a diverse range of engineering challenges in a fast-paced collaborative environment. 3GA use the latest in technology and software to provide our clients with high value engineering products. You will be trained in an array of software, safety certifications and 3D laser scanning equipment to facilitate efficient and effective data collection whilst conducting vessel surveys. You will use the data and software to perform Naval Architect functions to carry out Basic, Functional and Detail Design. You will work under the guidance of our senior staff to learn, grow and produce exceptional engineering work.
Responsibilities/Duties:
- Work directly with senior naval architects, engineers and project managers in the planning and execution of technical activities on a variety of complex projects related to new vessel design or vessel refit work.
- Work with senior level staff and other colleagues in all aspects of Naval Architecture.
- Perform design, documentation development, analysis and modeling tasks using appropriate software packages.
- Participate in various stages of the construction process, as assigned. Solve problems and make recommendations as appropriate.
- Undertake onsite vessel surveys (condition surveys, lightship surveys, inclining experiments) including vertical ladder ascent and descent, accessing confined spaces and working at heights. Training will be provided by 3GA.
- Strong technical writing skills including the ability to produce and present clear, detailed written technical specifications, procedures, and reports.
- Working knowledge of Rhino, ACAD software and MS Suite.
- Working Knowledge of ShipConstructor is an asset.
- Familiar with aspects of the vessel design including hull, stability and structure.

MARINE Mechanical Engineer

We have an URGENT opening for MARINE Mechanical Engineer in our BURNABY location. Most of the work will be design-focused and office-based, encompassing new design and refit engineering tasks from concept to production. This includes, but is not limited to, concept/class level design, equipment selection, fluid flow analysis, heat/mass transfer, and implementation engineering.
Responsibilities
- Marine systems using AutoCAD, other 3D modeling software, for production level deliverables
- System calculations using Pipe-Flo, excel, etc. and any that meet class and regulatory requirements
- VR design reviews, and full contribution to training and VR procedures
- Contributing to budgets, schedules, and proposals
- Positive representation of the company to the marine industry to further build the 3GA reputation as the place for reliable, responsive, and affordable engineering.
- Proven demonstration of technical knowledge, innovative engineering, effective interpersonal ability, sound judgment and prioritization skills
- Strong technical writing skills, producing concise written technical specs/ procedures, and reports.
- Strong oral and written communications and presentation skills
- Proven design and drafting abilities for marine systems
- Sufficient knowledge of ShipConstructor, ACAD and MS Office Suite software-willingness to travel and conduct ship survey work on-site and in confined spaces

As our Marine Electrical Engineer, you will bring your high degree of technical knowledge and innovative engineering to provide turn key solutions to marine installations on small work boats to large ferry installations. You will be primarily responsible for all aspects of engineering design of new design and vessel refits from concept through to implementation. Projects vary in complexity and size, small equipment installations to whole vessel detail design.
Responsibilities/Duties:
- Design of marine systems using AutoCAD and other specific electrical engineering software.
- Develop single line diagrams and distribution plans
- Perform load analyses and fault current analysis on whole ship design and component installations in existing configurations.
- Develop electrical ship propulsion design with various modes of energy creation and storage systems utilizing high voltage AC and DC systems.
- Develop routing and interconnections diagrams, lighting design
- Write and review specifications for refit or new vessel designs.
- Prepare technical specifications and tender packages for equipment including: medium and low voltage switchgear, low voltage motor control centers, and low voltage electrical equipment.
- Senior position: Minimum 10+ years in a design office / shipyard with experience in refit/new vessel projects.
- Intermediate position 3-10 years in a design office / shipyard with experience in refit/new vessel projects.
- Junior position: <3 years in a design office / shipyard with experience in refit/new vessel projects.
- Strong technical writing skills needed to produce concise written technical specifications, procedures, and reports.
- Demonstrated high level of interpersonal skills and engagement with clients.
- Working knowledge of ACAD software and of Microsoft Office suite.
- Availability and willingness to travel and conduct ship survey works including in confined spaces.
